Lips Don’t Lie!!

Fair Skin toneI was in a mood to spoil myself this weekend, so I went off on a shopping spree. Nothing puts me in a better mood than a few hundred dollars spent on my vanity. I am usually an impulsive buyer but when it comes to cosmetics, I do a lot of thinking and re-thinking. Wrong make-up can turn a beautiful face into a hideous one. I look through magazines, seek expert advice, and run through fashion catalogs to choose the right one. I am especially careful when picking lipsticks. A wrong shade can make your luscious lips look lifeless and unappealing. So, here are some tips which will help you pick the right lipstick to complement your skin tone.

For the fair damsel, deep reds, berry, wine reds with a blue undertone will do the trick. You can go for light browns, beige tones with a hint of pink or orange and even brown-based mauves. Shiny pinks with blue undertones or a red lipstick with a blue or Olive skinbrown undertone flatter fair skins. However, you should stay away from browny tinted lipsticks and loud pink ones.

If you have an olive or yellow skin tone, brownish reds, dark berry shades or mahogany undertones should be your pick, but run a mile from pink lipsticks.

If you have a medium skin, then revel in deep reds and pinks. Rich caramel shades and creamy coffee colored brown lipsticks look great on this skin type. Avoid pale browns if you don’t want to look ashen.

For darker skin tones, plum or wine red lipsticks look good. You can even try dark pinks, coppers, browns or reds with blue undertones. Deep shades on dark skins offer a dramatic contrast.

Use these tips and if they really helped, do let me know. I will be back with more tips. In the meantime, make sure that the centre-piece of your face is luscious and glowing!!

Fashion Tips for Women

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

When you choose a dress, don’t choose one just because it looks nice. Select a dress that best suits your body type.

• If you’re pear shaped (generous hips and thighs), choose dresses that are not too tight at the bottom. You should go for dresses with eye-catching details on the upper body of the dress and keep those pleats and gathers at the bottom to a minimum.

• For curvy women, I would suggest clothes that flatter your shape instead of hide it. After all, if you’ve got it, flaunt it. Get clothes that fit you perfectly. Not too tight nor too loose; let it be just right. The help of a tailor can go a long way for curvy women. It might be a little more expensive and time-consuming, but the results make every penny worth it.

• Flabby arms and wide shoulders? Don’t worry. To hide those problem areas, wear a jacket or a dress with long sleeves. Make sure the sleeves are not skin tight. If you try to use a shawl to hide your arms, it will make you look heavier on top. Don’t wear sleeves that are too big or fluffy either. They will make your shoulders look wider.

• Women who are petite can wear dresses with vertical stripes to create the illusion of height. If you have lean legs, knee length dresses or dresses slightly above the knee are the most flattering. Avoid horizontal stripes, wide belts and dresses that are calf length if you are petite. They will emphasize your short stature.

All these tips plus the right attitude will make it easy for you too look good every time you step out the door, no matter which body type you have.

Prom is usually the first opportunity for a guy’s first tux. You can buy a prom suit if you plan to use it for other occasions. Otherwise renting one would be a wise choice, economically that is. Stick to a sleek and well cut suit and you can never go wrong. Don’t try to experiment with colors as you are best off in a classic black suit and leave all the pastels and bright hues to the girls. A prom suit or tuxedo usually encompasses a jacket, trousers, a bow tie, and a cummerbund. You can also choose to wear a necktie instead of a bow tie. Throw in a pair of black dress loafers and you’ll be all set.
