Celebrity Brides – Inspiration for Brides-to-be!
Thursday, August 5th, 2010Celebrities and their dresses, be it on the red carpet, on-screen, or in personal life, have always inspired many girls. And brides-to-be are no exception! I dedicate this blog especially to all those brides-to-be who keep a close eye on what their favourite celebrities are wearing at their wedding, to get ideas for their own wedding dress.
Here is a glimpse at some of the best-dressed celebrity brides, whose dresses were truly captivating.
First on my list is none other than Elizabeth Taylor on her first trip (out of seven) down the aisle with hotel heir Conrad “Nicky” Hilton. She chose to wear a basque-waisted gown, which was absolutely stunning.
Lady Diana Spencer, with her gorgeous puff-sleeved, ruffled, silk taffeta gown, beautifully decorated with lace, embroidery, sequins, and around 10,000 tiny pearls, became the idol for many brides during the 1980’s.
Who can forget the utterly timeless demure dark brown suit worn by silver screen siren Marilyn Monroe for her wedding ceremony to baseball star Joe DiMaggio? Embellished with an ermine collar and accented with a dainty corsage of white orchids, the dress was certainly unique. Though not a typical white wedding gown, Marilyn Monroe’s attire can definitely be termed as elegance at its best!

Coming to more recent times, singer Gwen Stefani’s dazzling dip-dyed silk faille Christian Dior gown designed by John Galliano, for her marriage to rocker Gavin Rossdale in 2002, managed to capture every woman’s fantasy!
Katie Holmes’s off-shoulder Armani dress that she wore for her Italian wedding to the handsome Hollywood hunk, Tom Cruise, can be rightly called a true dream dress! Embellished with Swarovski crystals, complemented with a silk train, and topped with a floor length veil made of ivory tulle, this dress is the epitome of class.
I have just touched the tip of the iceberg. There are many other celebrity brides, whose sweet, sophisticated wedding dresses will provide inspiration to all women who look up to celebrities for ideas!

According to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), fashion should be fun and not fatal. Their most iconic slogan is the one that says, ‘I’d rather go naked than wear fur’. Many designers have faced the wrath of PETA for their love of fur, leather and wool. This time around it is none other than Armani. They have urged top Hollywood stars to boycott Armani for the Oscars. According to the group, the designer signed a pledge last year promising that he would not use fur in his future collections, but he violated that agreement. The group actually brought out a poster where Armani sports Pinocchio’s proverbial nose. What would be interesting to watch is whether Hollywood’s A-list, which includes Armani faithfuls, like Katie Holmes, Beyoncé, Penelope Cruz and Cate Blanchett would pay heed to this request. We sure would let you know!! Our eyes will be trained at the Kodak Theatre’s red carpet on February 22!!
