Perfect Hairstyles for the Ultimate Crowning Glory!!

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

Have you ever flinched at your image in the mirror after getting a haircut? The hairstyle that looked adorable on the model in the magazine might not be looking good on you. Where could you have gone wrong?

What might look sensational on Angelina Jolie or Cameron Diaz might look disastrous on you!! Not because you are any less pretty, but the shape of your face or your features may not blend in with the hairstyle chosen. All you need to do is to identify that perfect hairstyle that will accentuate the best features of your face!

Read on to know some of the common face shapes and the hairstyles that would suit them.

Round Face

Round

A round chin, soft and non-angular features are common to a classic round face. Go for hairstyles that will add length to your face. Long hairstyles with wispy and tapered ends, short blunt haircuts, or bob-cuts will look great on you. If you like to sport bangs in your hairstyle, make sure they are long and swept side to the face for that cute and sexy look!

Round Face

Square Face

Square

If you have a square face, you are lucky! Many would kill to have that enviable strong and angular jaw line that you do! And by featuring a great hairstyle you can add the oomph factor to your looks!

You can go for long hairstyles with layers or waves, or tapered bobs to soften the edges of your jaw line for a balancing effect. Wavy hair will make you look stunning! Avoid blunt bangs and go for long side-swept bangs instead.

Square Face

Oval Face

Oval

If you are blessed with an oval face, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to styling your hair! You are that lucky damsel who can try out all those hairstyles that others can only afford to dream about! Long, super short, straight, wavy, even edgy or pixie! Try anything. It’s your call! But also keep in mind that any hairstyle that adds height on top of your head is a strict no-no! And, if you have a very long face, avoid super long styles and go for shoulder-length cuts.

Oval Face

Heart Face

Heart

Do you have a very prominent chin and wide cheekbones or forehead? If yes, you belong to this category. Glamour queens Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, and Katie Holmes also belong to this category, and if you must know, they have always been spotted with great hairstyles.

Choppy layers, long or short wispy bangs or even fringes, chin-length bobs, and shoulder-length cuts can be very flattering on you. If you have curly hair, consider getting them tapered at the ends or leave your tresses long and flowy for the “dreamy look”!

Heart Face

So, next time you think of going in for a new hairstyle, analyze your face shape and run a check on all the possible hairstyles that suit your face shape. Get the one that appeals the most to you and step out looking ravishingly gorgeous!

What Eyes Can Tell You!

Monday, May 17th, 2010

“The eyes are the mirror of the soul” is a Yiddish Proverb. There can be many an argument about this statement but the fact is irrefutable that eyes are one of the most attractive features on a woman’s face. So, don’t ever fail to accentuate them and show them off to advantage. Eye shadows are an integral part of eye makeup. You can choose to pick the shade depending on the look you want to achieve or your skin tone. Choosing the right colours in eye shadow will make your eyes look bigger and luminous.

Blue eyes

Eyes as blue as the clear sky!! We recommend orange based hues to give those blue eyes extra intensity. Consider eye shadows like copper, peach, coral, bronze and rust to make your eyes stand out.

Brown eyes

Brown eyes are versatile, so doe-eyed women can experiment with many colours. Women with those pretty brown eyes can try eye-shadows in green, champagne, bronze, gold, brown and blue.

Black eyes

If you have those dark as midnight eyes, then your eyes will look stunning in shades of plum, raisin and grey.

Hazel eyes

Women with hazel eyes can go for neutral shades. You can also get away with rose, purples and pastel pink. Anything in the purple family like lilac, plum, violet or eggplant will also look great on you.

You are just a few brushes away from creating those beautiful pair of eyes, so pick the right shade of eye shadow and get to work!!

Lips Don’t Lie!!

Fair Skin toneI was in a mood to spoil myself this weekend, so I went off on a shopping spree. Nothing puts me in a better mood than a few hundred dollars spent on my vanity. I am usually an impulsive buyer but when it comes to cosmetics, I do a lot of thinking and re-thinking. Wrong make-up can turn a beautiful face into a hideous one. I look through magazines, seek expert advice, and run through fashion catalogs to choose the right one. I am especially careful when picking lipsticks. A wrong shade can make your luscious lips look lifeless and unappealing. So, here are some tips which will help you pick the right lipstick to complement your skin tone.

For the fair damsel, deep reds, berry, wine reds with a blue undertone will do the trick. You can go for light browns, beige tones with a hint of pink or orange and even brown-based mauves. Shiny pinks with blue undertones or a red lipstick with a blue or Olive skinbrown undertone flatter fair skins. However, you should stay away from browny tinted lipsticks and loud pink ones.

If you have an olive or yellow skin tone, brownish reds, dark berry shades or mahogany undertones should be your pick, but run a mile from pink lipsticks.

If you have a medium skin, then revel in deep reds and pinks. Rich caramel shades and creamy coffee colored brown lipsticks look great on this skin type. Avoid pale browns if you don’t want to look ashen.

For darker skin tones, plum or wine red lipsticks look good. You can even try dark pinks, coppers, browns or reds with blue undertones. Deep shades on dark skins offer a dramatic contrast.

Use these tips and if they really helped, do let me know. I will be back with more tips. In the meantime, make sure that the centre-piece of your face is luscious and glowing!!
