Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

The 66th Golden Globe Awards were held on January 11, 2009 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. As usual, Hollywood’s finest leading ladies stepped out in style. Strapless gowns, fishtail hemlines, and breathtaking necklaces were the hot picks of the day!

Kate Winslet looked classic and elegant in a black Yves Saint Laurent creation. Anne Hathaway was dressed in a crystal-embellished midnight blue gown by Armani Privé. Eva Longoria Parker looked blazing hot in a mermaid cut Reem Acra gown in fire engine red. Others sporting Reem Acra included Rumer Willis in a deep purple strapless gown and Olivia Wilde in a ruffled concoction.

Angelina Jolie was dressed in Atelier Versace number, while Demi Moore played it safe in a peach chiffon Dior dress. Jennifer Lopez, on the other hand, dared to bare quite a bit more. The plunging neckline of her gold Marchesa creation had heads turning. Singer/actress Beyonce also showed offer her curves in a fitted sequined Elie Saab number and Christina Applegate walked down the red carpet looking lovely in a powder yellow strapless gown by Roberto Cavalli.

Miley Cyrus wore an age-appropriate white Marchesa gown and Drew Barrymore, a presenter at the event, wore a mesh, gray-blue John Galliano for Dior gown. Unlike some of her other disastrous outfits that she has worn over the years, this one really worked for her. Eva Mendes made a unique statement with her Dior white silk gown, but it was Mary Louise Parker’s electric blue, strapless Carlos Miele gown that brought some well needed color to the red carpet. Laura Linney wore an Ellie Saab lemon gown with an embellished waistline. As always, she looked stunning and sophisticated. In fact, she is my pick for Best Dressed.

Do you agree? I would love to know your thoughts. As to what your favorite actors wore, I’ll cover that in detail next week!

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

In the world of fashion, color evokes passion and inspires new trends. Color is essential for designers who come out with new lines of fashionable clothes, accessories, and jewelry season after season. Pantone, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of X-Rite, Incorporated, is a world-renowned authority on color. Pantone develops color tools to address the color needs of the creative community everywhere. In this respect, Pantone released the Fashion Color Report for Spring 2009. I’ve found that Pantone is usually pretty accurate with their color predictions, so go ahead and indulge yourself in these must-have colors.

Accessorize with bold colors like Fuchsia Red.

For the daring among you, there is nothing hotter than Super Lemon this spring.

A Brief History of the Blue Jean and Why it Will Never Go out of Style

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

Everyone loves jeans as it is undeniably the most comfortable piece of casual wear. The blue jean has evolved over the decades to emerge as the true winner among casual wear.

The term denim is believed to have its origin in the French phrase “Serge de Nîmes”, meaning Twill from Nîmes, a fabric which was hugely popular in the late 16th century. It was from this twilled cotton cloth that jeans were made, though they were not called as jeans then.

It was during the great California Gold Rush in the 1850s that the world’s first jean was made. The actual invention of blue jean is credited to Levi Strauss and David Jacobs. It was originally made as a comfortable and durable wear for miners. About 20 years later, Levi Strauss and David Jacobs joined forces to patent the idea of putting metal rivets to the seams to increase their strength.

From then on blue jeans began gaining in popularity and have become a wardrobe staple all over the world. Jeans are made for men, women, and children of all shapes and sizes. There are different styles of jeans available – skinny, boot cut, straight, bell bottom, boy cut, and baggy fit. Jeans also come in different kinds of washes, like stone wash, sand blasted wash, whisker wash, tinted wash, and more. While cuffed, distressed, custom-made, and embellished jeans are just a few of the many types of jeans that people wear. These jeans are embellished with everything from simple embroidery and shiny sparkles to expensive Swarovski crystals.

Today the blue jean can be worn for different occasions and can be dressed up or down depending on your personal choice. With so much going for it, the blue jean is definitely here to stay!

Fun, Flirty, and Flouncy….

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

The general idea about dressing is that we should dress only to please ourselves. But with piercing looks and furtive glances at your clothes, this theory, sadly doesn’t holds true. So I urge you to take a good look around and plunge into the world of fashion, heads down. It shouldn’t be too hard with so many brands and a wide range of clothes and accessories to choose from. With pretty colors, rich textures, bold patterns, and intricate details they are truly mind boggling!

My favorite piece of clothing has to be the skirt. Well who wouldn’t like it? Skirts come in enough styles to please everyone – from tomboyish girls to the real fashionistas. Swirl in gorgeous skirts with adorable pleats and flirty frills, tailored pencil skirts, classic denim skirts and sassy minis. In my opinion, no other piece of clothing can be more versatile. They can be worn in lots of different ways with cool tees, sleeveless tops, or cozy sweaters.

I don’t think anyone can go wrong in pairing a chic black trouser skirt with a crisp white shirt. Just wear a pair of patent leather flats to stay stylish at work. A-line skirts can smooth out round hips and thighs. How about a fun, swingy, floral skirt teamed with cool tie up sandals for a casual look. Be it salsa or flamenco or rumba, you can twirl away in ruffle skirts and flared skirts. Go clubbing in a miniskirt with leggings and high heeled pumps and turn heads. And the classic denim skirt is a definite must-have.

Need I say more? Skirts are definitely fun, so wear them with the right attitude. Fashion is for everybody!

Everything about Ts, Tanks, and Camis

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Comfort and chic-look is the style mantra of women’s fashion wear today. Everyone wears T-shirts, tank tops and camisoles, which are trendy and comfortable too. Nothing can beat the comfort of a cotton T on a sunny day or the freshness of a solid tank. But I often keep wondering whether there is a perfect way to dress in tees, tanks, and camis? So I’m going to brainstorm and come up with a list of ways to carry them off in style.

I know it is extremely difficult to even think beyond tees and denim, but I’m willing to give it a shot. A cropped jacket added to a turtleneck or V-neck T with trousers will look oh-so cool! You can so totally dress up T-shirts with fitted pants and a dressy blazer. Throw in some sexy, strappy high-heels and a metallic clutch and I assure that you will look totally chic. Wear a graphic T to jazz up any occasion. These come with anything from funny messages to lovable cartoons to support group slogans.

A tank is such a versatile piece of clothing. You can look stylish and at the same time stay warm with the layering. For a perfect business-casual look, a solid ribbed tank can be worn under a blazer or jacket. Usher in a cool and casual feel by pairing your favorite tank with a breezy cotton top. Flaunt your feminine form in a fun, flouncy skirt and a fitted tank.

Camisoles can be worn as a top, just as long as they are not too sheer or lacy. Just keep it to the basics and choose solid camis instead. A simple, plain cami worn under sleek tops and dresses would be a good option. Pair a light, ruffled cotton cami with a tiered skirt. With cotton boxer shorts or pajama pants, it can also substitute for comfy sleepwear.

But I guess the beauty lies in the fact that you can enjoy wearing them in all the above mentioned styles…and more.
